TNPDS Address Change: Update Your Ration Card Address
You can change the address on your smart family card online, through Change of Address (முகவரி மாற்றம் செய்ய) on tnpds.gov.in. It takes one proof of your new address and the mobile number registered with your card.
- Open Citizen Login (பயனாளர் நுழைவு) on tnpds.gov.in. Card services on the homepage, such as Change of Address, open this same login.
- Enter your registered mobile number and the captcha code, then click Submit.
- Enter the OTP sent to your phone and click Submit.
- Choose the Change of Address service. Your current address appears on screen in English and Tamil.
- Type the new address in English, then select the District, Taluk and Village, and enter the Pincode.
- Type the same address again in Tamil.
- Choose the document type and upload a scan of your proof of residence.
- Tick the declaration and submit.
- Save the reference number. It comes by SMS and is shown on screen.
The OTP goes only to the registered number. If yours has changed, sort out changing the mobile number on your card before you start.

[H2] Which Proof of Address Will Be Accepted
Upload one document that shows your new address. The tnpds.gov.in application form accepts these as proof of residence:
- Aadhaar card
- Electricity bill
- Front page of a bank or post office pass book
- Gas consumer card
- Property tax receipt, for your own house
- Passport
- Rent agreement, for tenants
- Slum Clearance Board allotment order
- Telephone bill
- Voter ID card
- Bonded labourers release certificate
Use a PDF, PNG, GIF or JPEG file under 1 MB. If your Aadhaar still shows the old address, upload another proof from this list that shows the new one.
Tenants can use the rent agreement, as long as it shows the full new address.
[H2] Typing the New Address in Tamil
The form asks for the address twice: once in English and once in Tamil. The Tamil box converts English letters as you type.
Type the Tamil word in English letters and press the space bar or Tab. The portal turns it into Tamil script. Check each word before moving on, since spelling errors are hard to spot later.
[H2] Will Your Ration Shop Change with the Address?
It depends on how far you have moved. Use this as a guide.
- Same street or nearby, same shop area: nothing more to do after approval. Keep buying from your usual fair price shop.
- New area in the same taluk or district: after approval, log in and check the shop shown on your card. If it still shows the old shop, act on it.
- Another district: expect to need help with the shop change as well as the address.
A 2021 report found no online option to choose a new shop. Cardholders were told to visit their Taluk Supply Office or an e-Sevai centre. They needed the reference number and the code of the shop nearest the new home.
Until the shop changes, you are not stuck. The state has directed officials to let cardholders buy from any ration shop. So you can collect from a shop near your new home.

[H2] Checking Your Address Change Status
Track the request on Card Related Service Request Status (அட்டை தொடர்பான சேவை நிலை அறிய) on the tnpds.gov.in homepage. Enter the Reference Number sent to your registered mobile and click Submit.
Your request goes to the Taluk Supply Officer for verification. Zee News Tamil reports that the address is usually updated within 15 to 30 working days. After that, you can log in and save the updated card details.
If nothing moves after 30 working days, visit your Taluk Supply Office (வட்ட வழங்கல் அலுவலர்) with the reference number. In Chennai, go to your zonal Assistant Commissioner’s office.
[H2] Is There an Address Change Form to Download?
No. The tnpds.gov.in homepage offers no downloadable form; the online request is the form. If you can’t apply online, two in-person routes take address changes.
PDS grievance camps. Address change is one of the services at these camps. Bring your original ration card, address proof and the phone with your registered number, since changes are confirmed by OTP.
- Chennai: the 19 zonal offices of the Food and Consumer Protection Department, from 10 am to 1 pm.
- Other districts: all taluk offices, at the same time.
One such camp was held on Saturday, 10 October 2026. Watch your district collectorate’s website, which ends in nic.in, for the next date.
e-Sevai centres. “Change of Address in Ration Card” (PDS-505) is listed as an e-Sevai service. Take the same address proof and your registered phone.
